The Center for Global and Regional Studies (CGRS) promotes the study of the world’s peoples, arts, environments, literatures, sciences, and institutions. We seek to advance discussion of important global issues. And we’re always mindful of the entanglements of the global with the local.
The CGRS is not an academic department. Instead, we work with our member departments and programs, as well as other departments and offices on campus to provide new opportunities for students and faculty.
Our activities include:
- Administering the Hyme Loss Award for Global Engagement
- Events with visiting experts speaking on urgent topics, co-organized with other departments and programs
- New opportunities for students through fellowships and internships
- Faculty opportunities for team-teaching and teaching networks
- Guidance in Foreign Languages Across the Curriculum
- Faculty reading and study groups
- And much more for both faculty and students
Carleton has historic strengths in foreign languages and area studies, and Carleton students participate in off-campus studies at an extraordinary rate. In short, we are well positioned to help our students deepen their understanding of world regions and global issues.
